The Hanoi People’s Committee has just issued Notice No. 156/TB-VP on the conclusion of Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Duong Duc Tuan regarding the investment plan to build a route connecting Gia Binh airport (Bac Ninh) with the center of the capital.
Accordingly, Hanoi agrees on the investment plan to build a route connecting from Gia Binh airport to the center of Hanoi (the section passing through Hanoi) according to the proposal of the Department of Planning and Architecture in Document No. 1017/QHKT-HTKT dated March 19, 2025.
The route is determined to have a total length of 35.5 km. Of which, the section through Hanoi City is 14 km long, including 7 km of new construction from the connection point with Bac Ninh province across the Duong River, and the remaining 7 km coinciding with the Hanoi – Thai Nguyen Expressway/Ring Road no. 3. The route direction will follow the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong railway axis, through the Trung Mau station area, connecting with the intersection between the Hanoi – Lang Son Expressway and the Hanoi – Thai Nguyen Expressway, then connecting with the Tu Lien Bridge approach road, leading straight to the center of Hanoi Capital.
The project of the route connecting Gia Binh Airport with Hanoi Capital has strategic significance in terms of traffic, is the driving force for the development of the Northeast region of Hanoi, expanding the urban space of the Capital and creating a solid foundation for regional connectivity in the key economic region of the North. In addition, Gia Binh airport is identified as a national key project, playing a special role in the system of national defense and security projects. After completion, the airport will serve the training and combat readiness missions of the People’s Public Security Air Force, and at the same time act as a reserve for the flight operations of the Air Defense – Air Force. The airport is also a support option for civil airports in the region in case of emergency situations.
According to the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the route connecting to Gia Binh airport needs to be built as quickly, directly, beautifully and effectively as possible, and must be completed within a maximum of 2 years.
From Thuan Thanh Eco-Smart IP, it takes only 20 minutes (13 km) to connect to Gia Binh International Airport and after the completion of Ring Road no. 4, the connection distance to Gia Binh Airport will be shortened to only 8 km (10′).
